Man indicted in sex trafficking case after arrest in Phoenix’s ‘Blade’ district

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A grand jury has indicted a man accused of sex trafficking a 14-year-old girl in west Phoenix, prosecutors announced Monday.

In November, Dennis Mitchell Jr., 42, was arrested by Glendale police at a motel near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road — an area known as “the Blade,” with frequent prostitution, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Authorities say the teen contacted Glendale police after Mitchell hit her during an argument, and told them that she had been living with him in a room used for prostitution.

During his arrest, prosecutors say police also rescued another woman staying with Mitchell.

Charging documents allege Mitchell may have sex trafficked the girl and pandered the woman for more than two months.

On Dec. 1, Mitchell was indicted on charges of child sex trafficking, aggravated assault, pandering, and receiving earnings of prostitution.

He remains in jail on a $150,000 cash bond with a trial scheduled for April.
