Nurses put wedding together in 24 hours for bride undergoing brain surgery

DENVER, Colo. (KUSA) – After a Colorado woman was diagnosed with a large brain tumor requiring major surgery, her nurses had just 24 hours to plan her wedding. And they did not disappoint.

Gary Clayson has been waiting 15 years to marry his fiancée, Anne.

“Yeah, she’s the last person I’m going to be with. So, we’re going to make it official,” said Clayson.

Most weddings take months to plan, but Gary couldn’t wait. Monday morning, Anne will undergo surgery to remove a large tumor in her brain.

So, Thursday night Gary proposed, and then asked for a favor.

“And he’s like, ‘We gotta get a wedding together by noon tomorrow; let’s make it happen,” said nurse and now wedding planner, Breanne Burley.

She and Anne’s care team took on a new role.

“We were the wedding planning party. So, we had someone working on the cake, someone working on the photographer,” said Burley.

By noon Friday, everything was ready.

The ceremony was filled with joy, despite the uncertainty still ahead.

No one knows what the future will bring, but Anne and Gary will face it together.
