Extreme heat warning to expire, but dangerous heat remains in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — High temperatures reached 102°F so far today, easily breaking the previous daily record of 94°F set in 1990. While we’ll get a brief break from triple-digit heat on Monday, temperatures are expected to climb back into the triple digits for the remainder of the week.

The Extreme Heat Warning is set to expire at 8 p.m. this evening. However, conditions will remain dangerously hot, so it’s still important to stay hydrated and limit prolonged exposure to the sun throughout the week.

We’ve now seen record-breaking high temperatures for five consecutive days, and six more records could fall in the days ahead. If this trend continues, we may end up with an 11-day streak of record-breaking heat.

Monday will bring a slight dip, with a high near 99°F. Notably, Phoenix has not recorded a high below 100°F since last Tuesday, when temperatures reached 96°F.

Temperatures will rise again to around 100°F on Tuesday and are expected to remain in the low 100s through Saturday. By Sunday, highs are forecast to ease back into the upper 90s.

Looking ahead, some long-range models suggest cooler temperatures may arrive between Monday and Friday. It’s still too early to determine the timing or extent of this cooldown, but we’ll continue to monitor the trend. There is also a possibility of rain during this period, though confidence remains low at this time.
