Ex-Flagstaff radio host sentenced to 1.5 years for child sex crimes
FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AZFamily) — An ex-longtime Flagstaff radio host will spend over a year behind bars after being convicted of child sex crimes.
Dave Zorn, a former radio host for KAFF, accepted a plea deal of 1.5 years in prison, followed by 10 years of probation. Earlier this year, Zorn was one of nearly 30 people arrested in a multiagency operation targeting child sex trafficking.
During his court hearing on Thursday, Zorn expressed remorse and said his actions ruined his career and hurt his family and wife, calling the last few months “the toughest of his life.” Since his arrest, Zorn says he’s been working on his faith and has accepted responsibility for his actions.
Zorn’s attorney told Judge Joshua Steinlage and the courtroom that Zorn sought mental health treatment and is willingly receiving treatment. The lawyer added that the likelihood Zorn commits the same crime is “highly unlikely.”
As part of the plea agreement, Zorn will be required to continue getting mental health treatment and complete 100 hours of community service. If he violates his probation, he could receive a sentence of eight years.
Court documents show Zorn was initially booked on seven counts of luring a child for sexual exploitation and attempted furnishing of harmful items.
Zorn previously served as the news and sports director at KAFF and was a Northern Arizona University halftime radio host. He was also a part-time journalism teacher at NAU for three years.
