Rain chances, cooler temps coming to Arizona

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Today’s high temperatures are warmer than the average for this time of the year.

The normal high is 101 degrees, but the good news is that we will see temperatures drop below normal as we head into Thursday and Friday, with high temperatures expected to be around 96 to 98 degrees.

Rain chances will increase by the end of the week, with showers starting around Wednesday evening in southwest Arizona. The best chances for the Valley still look to be around Thursday and Friday, with a 20% chance on Thursday and a 30% chance on Friday.

The reason for this is due to an increase in moisture from what is now Tropical Depression Mario. It will continue to weaken as it moves northward through the Pacific, with remnants of Mario bringing rain chances the rest of the week into Southern California and into Arizona.

Some models are showing a tenth to a quarter of an inch possible across Phoenix, with other models showing even less than that. Rainfall totals are still uncertain at this point, but some areas, especially across western Arizona, could see heavier rain if thunderstorms develop. The weekend looks to be mostly dry for the Valley with temperatures around 98 to 100 degrees. By next week, temperatures will return to above average, with triple digits on Monday and highs near 105 on Tuesday.
