First Alert Weather Day Monday for rain chances in Phoenix area

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect Monday for most of the higher elevations in Mohave County and areas like Flagstaff, Wiliams, Prescott and the Grand Canyon.

Snow showers are expected to start up early Monday morning. Flagstaff and Williams could see a couple of inches of snow on Monday. The weather system we are tracking is moving into the state from the northwest, so western Arizona will see more of the activity Monday, and eastern Arizona will pick up on more of it Tuesday and Wednesday.

Rain showers across the lower deserts look isolated and scattered on Monday, with slight chances on Tuesday and Wednesday. Not much accumulation is expected, with less than a tenth of an inch likely for Phoenix. Areas north and east of Phoenix could see a quarter of an inch.

The upper low lingers over the state mid-week but weakens, leaving the chance for light rain Tuesday and Wednesday and snow showers likely to continue through Thursday as well.

The system departs east of Arizona, and temperatures will warm back into the 70s by the weekend. Below-normal temperatures are expected this week. The average temperature for Phoenix is 69 degrees. Temperatures will be in the lower 60s through the week.
