MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — A man in Mesa said his brain surgeon is a hero after saving his life and helping others impacted by the wildfires in California.

Several years ago, Dave Mann suffered a stroke and then a brain tumor. He said after what seemed like a hopeless search, he finally found Dr. Chester Griffith in California.

“That’s one of the two surgeons that saved my life, and they protected my vision so I could see. Without them I would have lost any hope at all,” Mann said.

Now, for the first time since his surgery, Mann saw his brain surgeon. This time, he was not in the hospital but on television, helping others in these devastating wildfires.

“I thought I appreciated him at that time. The work they did. I am even more appreciative after seeing him, and his son, his neighbor and son put out fires on four homes and kept them upright,” Mann said.

Dr. Chester Griffith was interviewed this week by Inside Edition after staying up for almost two days to fight the fires in Malibu valiantly.

“This was miracle. A miracle what they did what they did for me. Even a greater miracle that they were able to do what they did to save these homes,” Mann said.

Mann said the story is a testament to the type of person Dr. Griffith is.

“This is his commitment. His mission is to help others. Whether it’s a medical condition, but now, it is to prevent tragedy,” Mann said.
