Fire causes extensive damage to apartment building in Mesa

MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — An apartment building in Mesa was severely damaged Tuesday afternoon in a fast-moving fire.

The fire broke out around 1 p.m. at a two-story, multi-unit building on North Olive, in the area of Horne and McKellips roads. According to the Mesa Fire and Medical Department, crews initially took a defensive stance because conditions were unsafe to go inside.

Video from the Arizona’s Family news drone shows a large hole burned through the roof of the building.

Officials say residents were able to evacuate before crews arrived and that no one was hurt.

As of 2 p.m., McKellips is closed from Horne to Mesa Drive.
