Through July 10, this year ranks number one for days 110 or higher
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — While we still have a long way to go to catch 2023′s 55 days of 110 or higher in Phoenix, we are off to a record pace this year.
Through July 10, this year leads the pack at first place, with 23 days reaching at least 110 degrees. The graphic below shows that 1974 held second place, with 21 days of 110 or higher through July 10.
Interestingly, the brutally hot 2023 is only in 13th place, with 14 days of at least 110 through July 10.
Of course, 2023 was extremely hot from July through the rest of the summer, including the 31-day consecutive stretch of 110+ days.
Will this year catch up to 2023? It’s not out of the question, but we would need 32 days of at least 110 degrees this year to catch up. This is obviously not a record we want to catch up to.
It’s not just the hot afternoons bringing the heat but also the extremely warm overnight temperatures. It’s no surprise that 2023 is also the record-holder for a number of days in which the low temperature (often the early morning temperature) did not drop below 90 degrees.
However, notice in the graphic below that 2024 is already in 3rd place with 16 days of low temperatures 90 or warmer.
This is remarkable because summer is not even half over so it would not be shocking if this year jumps into 2nd place or even 1st place.
