Hot start to June ranks fifth-hottest ever in Phoenix
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — If you think it’s been an especially hot start to June, you would be correct.
From June 1 through June 6 this year, the average temperature in Phoenix is tied for the 5th hottest stretch for those dates in records that go back to 1896. In other words, this is currently the 5th hottest start to June on record. The hottest start to June happened in 2006 with an average temperature of 95.3 degrees. This year, with an average temperature of 93.1 degrees, we are tied at No. 5 on the list with 2004 and 1977.
If 93.1 degrees does not sound all that impressive, remember that this list is based on the average daily temperature over a 24-hour period, which includes both the high and low temperatures. Therefore, it’s not just the 110-plus high temperatures that have landed this year in the Top 5, it’s also because of the very warm low temperatures. In fact, with a low of 87 degrees on Friday morning, it looks like we may have broken the “warmest low” record, which was previously set in 1977 with a low of 85 degrees.
It’s possible that we could move up on this list over the next few days, stay tuned!
