A 55-year-old woman was injured in an accidental shooting at a Phoenix church Sunday, police said.

"During the investigation, the 55-year-old female was accidentally struck with what appeared to be shrapnel from a round that was accidentally discharged," Phoenix Police Lt. Mark Tovar said.

One of the parishioners at the church was showing another person the weapon in the kitchen of the Fire and Water International Church at 20th and Diamond streets, Tovar said."And what he was doing was clearing the weapon," he added.A round inside the chamber discharged and struck the ceramic tile floor.

“And after it struck the floor that’s when shrapnel either from the floor or the round itself struck her," Tovar said.

The woman was taken to the hospital with a minor leg wound.
