SURPRISE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- An Arizona's Family viewer says a cactus in his backyard was struck by lightning early Wednesday morning.

Christopher Robinson says lightning struck a cactus behind his home near 147th Avenue and Jomax Road and caught on fire around 5:45 a.m. He was able to get video of the plant on fire and took photos of the aftermath.

It came as much of the Valley experienced heavy rains and strong thunderstorms the entire morning, causing power outages and dangerous driving conditions for parts of the Phoenix metro.
