Officer Bullis was shot in the line of duty in March. She was responding to a hit-and-run call in South Phoenix when a gunman opened fire on her patrol car in an ambush attack. The injuries were not life-threatening, and Officer Bullis was back on patrol three months later.
The shooting happened near Pinal Avenue and O’Neil Drive around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Seventeen-year-old Hailey Stephens was shot in the head and later died at the hospital. Another 17-year-old girl was shot in the arm and is expected to survive. Stephens was a student and cheerleader at Case Grande Union High School.
Gilbert police say that around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, officers were dispatched to a welfare check at a home on Aspen Way, near Guadalupe and Recker roads. When they arrived, they found a man, later identified as 49-year-old Stefan Koleva, dead inside. In arresting paperwork, officers said they found a Koleva with signs of decomposition after being found wrapped in plastic and concealed under a bed.
The district says it won't have enough money once COVID funding ends.
