road closed

MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — The Arizona Department of Transportation is closing part of the U.S. 60 overnight in the East Valley to do a little clean-up. The eastbound side of the freeway will close between Gilbert and Greenfield roads, starting at 8 p.m. It'll last until 5 a.m., but sometimes crews finish early. So what prompted the closure? The same area was closed during the weekend for asphalt removal. Apparently, crews didn't clean up all the debris left behind and drivers took to social media to let them know about it. So ADOT said it is sending out workers Monday night to sweep for dust and other debris.

Drivers who get off at Gilbert Road can take either Baseline Road or Southern Avenue to continue east. ADOT recommends taking the Loop 202 (Red Mountain or Santan freeways) during the closure. For more information, click/tap here.

ADOT said the westbound side of the same section of the U.S. 60 will be closed this weekend, from 9 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday for asphalt pavement removal.
