SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- A teen was hit by a car while riding his bike near Poston Butte High School Monday morning.

The crash happened near Gantzel and Bella Vista roads around 6:30 a.m. The student, a 15- to 16-year-old boy, was riding his bike when he was struck. "It appears the student bicyclist crossed in an area not designated for crossing." said the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.

Aerials from Arizona's Family news chopper showed a white car with heavy windshield damage from the collision. The student driver remained on scene and the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said speed and impairment were not factors.

The boy was placed in an ambulance and fire officials said he was alert and conscious. He was complaining of leg and back pain. He was taken to a hospital for his injuries.
