PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- A deadly crash occurred in Phoenix on Saturday night, causing road closures, the Phoenix Police Department says.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson of Phoenix PD says the single-vehicle collision at 15th Avenue and Indian School Road left one person dead at the scene.

The driver has been identified as 28-year-old Danny Lopez Guerra.

Due to the crash, Indian School Road was closed from 15th to 16th avenues.

The car slammed into a palm tree and took out a nearby fire hydrant snapping the water pipe below ground, sending water shooting into the air. There was some flooding in the area.

Nearby business owner David Zhu heard the impact and called police, "I was the first one to call the police...firefighters and everyone else was trying to help, but they couldn't do nothing."

Police believe that speed may have been a factor in the crash.
