Woman dead after car ends up in a yard during a crash in Phoenix

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- A woman has died after a two-vehicle crash Monday morning near 14th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 7 a.m.

According to Phoenix police, officers learned that a man driving a Chevrolet Tahoe was heading east on Bethany Home Road and ran the red light at 15th Avenue. The truck crashed into a Nissan Sentra driven by 23-year-old Selemawit Negash. Negash was heading south on 15th Avenue and had a green light, police say.

Police say the force of the impact from the crash pushed Negash's Sentra through a block wall and into the yard of a home. Negash was rushed to a local hospital but died from her injuries. Police say the man driving the truck had minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital. The man, who hasn't been identified, is suspected of driving impaired.
