MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS5) - Mesa police are on the scene of what they are calling a "suspicious death" investigation.

It happened around 9 a.m. near Southern Ave. and Hawes Road. (Hawes is between Sossaman and Ellsworth roads.)

Officers were initially called to the scene for reports of an injured male who had been taken to the hospital. Police say he had "obvious signs of trauma."

After speaking to the man, police say a dead woman was located in the same area. She also had obvious signs of trauma, but no further details were given about her cause of death.

Police on Thursday identified the woman as Briana Richards, 19.

Investigators have not said how Richards and the injured man, whose name has not been released, are connected.

That man is still in the hospital.

No suspect has been identified.
