PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- It may be some time before "Play ball!" is heard again.
On Thursday, Major League Baseball announced the cancellation of the remainder of the spring training schedules in both Arizona and Florida. The start of the regular season has also been postponed at least two weeks.

The 2020 World Baseball Classic qualifying games scheduled to be played in Tucson have also been indefinitely postponed.
This follows the widespread cancellations or postponements of other major sports across the country. The NBA, NHL, MLS, and USL have suspended their seasons, while several college basketball conference tournaments have been canceled. The fate of the NCAA basketball tournament remains in doubt.
As concerns about the coronavirus pandemic continue to sweep across the U.S. -- and the world -- Arizona organizations and agencies are canceling and postponing events to try and stem the spread of the disease here.
Arizona State University has also suspended all spring sports competitions.
