PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Diamondbacks officials announced Thursday afternoon that they have officially parted ways with Hitting Coaches Darnell Coles and Assistant Hitting Coach Eric Hinske. The team announced Triple-A Reno Hitting Coach Rick Short and Run Production Coordinator Drew Hedman will be co-hitting coaches moving forward.

According to Baseball Reference, the Diamondbacks are hitting .231 as a team with 574 strikeouts. They are currently last in the MLB standings, sitting at a 20-43 overall record. In their last 32 games, the Diamondbacks are 5-27.
Short was drafted in 1994 by the Baltimore Orioles and played 12 seasons in the Minors for numerous teams before being called up to the big leagues in in 2005. He made his debut with the Washington Nationals. Short also played five seasons in Japan. Short has served as hitting coach for Double-A Jackson from 2019-20 and currently was the Reno Aces hitting coach this season.
Hedman played for the Boston Red Sox from 2009-13. He then became assistant coach for Vanderbilt in 2013-14, when Vanderbilt won the National Championship. He then joined the Diamondbacks in 2018 as a professional scout, and currently serves as the team’s run production coordinator.
The Diamondbacks next game is Friday, June 11 at 6:40 p.m. at Chase Field against the Los Angeles Angels.
