TUCSON (3TV/CBS 5) -- The Arizona Wildcats baseball team will be facing off against the Ole Miss Rebels starting June 11 in the Super Regionals in a best of three series.
Coming off their seventh conference win and fifth regional win, the PAC-12 champions will look to knock off the Rebels in this upcoming series. The Wildcats have defeated Grand Canyon and UC Santa Barbara so far this tournament.
In Sunday’s win against UC Santa Barbara, Arizona right-handed pitcher Chandler Murphy grabbed his seventh win of the season, with no losses. Murphy went five innings, giving up seven hits and one run. Right-fielder Ryan Holgate went 2-3 with a two-run home run for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats have been dominant all season long, with a 21-9 conference record and securing the PAC-12 championship title. The last time the Wildcats made a College World Series appearance was 2016, where the Wildcats fell to Coastal Carolina in the championship best of three series. The Wildcats last national championship title was in 2012, where they defeated South Carolina and went 10-0 in the postseason.
Head coach Jay Johnson said in an interview with SiriusXM, “We feel robbed a little bit by last year. I feel like in 2020 we had a similar type team. Early in the season we had beaten Texas, who this year is a #2 national seed. We beat Nebraska, which gave Arkansas the #1 national seed…and we felt really poised to make a run at the PAC-12 championship…”
The Rebels grabbed the win against Southern Miss to take the Oxford Regional title Monday night. Four Rebels hit homers, including two for DH Tim Elko. Elko went 3-3 with two homers and five RBIs.
Game one will be Friday, June 11 at 6:00 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Arizona.
