GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) – The Arizona Coyotes have traded away Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland to the Vancouver Canucks in a blockbuster deal, reported Friday afternoon. The Coyotes will receive the Canucks 9th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, Loui Eriksson, Jay Beagle, and Antoine Roussel. The Coyotes will also receive the Canucks 2022 2nd round pick and the 2023 7th round pick.

Ekman-Larsson has spent his career with the Coyotes since being drafted 6th overall in 2009, serving as captain after Shane Doan retired in 2018. Ekman-Larsson signed an 8-year $66 million contract with the Coyotes in 2018. Garland was a restricted free agent for the Coyotes at the end of the 2021 season.

Arizona Coyotes name André Tourigny as head coach

The Coyotes have been quite busy this offseason after hiring new head coach André Tourigny in early July. The team also traded goaltender Adin Hill to the San Jose Sharks in July. The Coyotes also received three draft picks and winger Andrew Ladd from the New York Islanders the same day. The team acquired defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere from the Philadelphia Flyers on July 22.

Currently, in the 2021 NHL Draft, the Coyotes have three second-round picks. They do not have a first-round pick due to violations of the league’s combine testing policy and had to forfeit the pick last August. The Coyotes season is set to begin on October 14 versus the Columbus Blue Jackets.
