Flu season is here!
Here are tips from the experts at Banner Health to help prevent the spread of flu this season.
Flu season occurs in Fall and Winter, with a peak usually from November through March. Unlike the common cold, the flu is often much more severe with symptoms that come on suddenly and may include fever, body aches, chills, fatigue or weakness, and headaches.
Why it spreads so quickly...
The flu virus most often spreads via a cough or sneeze or even just talking. It can also be spread by touching an infected surface. It is most contagious in the first 3-4 days of a person being sick, but can be spread as early as 1 day after infection and as far as 7 days after becoming ill.
How to stay healthy
- WASH your hands regularly with hot soapy water, or to use hand sanitizer throughout the day.
- STAY STRONG by consuming an abundance of fruits, vegetables and water daily.
- GET A FLU SHOT – it’s the most effective way to protect against the flu and is highly recommended for everyone 6 months and older.
