MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Julie Mercer was born and raised in England before making her way to Arizona.

She worked in a Cornish pasty shop in Cornwall for more than a decade-- always dreaming of opening a shop of her own. When her long term job let her go, Julie used that loss to fuel her passion.

She started Sonson's in April of 2018, working at farmers markets throughout the Valley.

It was just a couple of months ago, on Sept. 22, that Julie realized her dream of owning her own shop.

The pasty shop is named after Julie’s "mum" Sonia, lovingly known as "Sonson." Sonson is Julie's inspiriation in the bakery and taught Julie how to make pasties.

Julie creates traditional Cornish pasties using traditional ingredients of potatoes onions and rutabaga.

You can get steak, ground beef, steak/cheese, chicken or sausage encased in a delightful crust.

Vegan options are also available.
