AVONDALE, AZ (Jaime's Local Love) -- MAE Fine Foods is named in honor of Chef Rich's wife. Melinda Ann Elwell loved sweets and dreamed of opening a chocolate shop. She often joked that her shop would not be successful because she would give all the proceeds to her friends and favorite charities.
Mindy, short for Melinda, and Rich loved spending quality time in their kitchen with their three children, laughing as they enjoyed gourmet meals and delectable desserts. It was a devastating loss when Mindy died in 2016, after a five-year battle against brain cancer.
In memory of his strong and graceful bride, entrepreneur Rich Elwell embraced his creative energy by coupling their family's packaging company with his wife's love of chocolate. Despite the Elwell family's grief, MAE Fine Foods was born, and it's continued to flourish. The business took on another battle -- a global pandemic -- and faced some tough challenges. But today, MAE Fine Foods is finding its footing again. The family business is rooted in the core values that guided Mindy's life: Passion, commitment, and quality.
The company is now a 2,500+-square-foot state-of-the-art kitchen that bakes delectable macarons and bonbons for several national food-service distributors. MAE Fine Foods boasts an Instagram page that will make you drool.
