Four ways to experience fall in the West

(Source: AAA)

The AAA Via Blog has put together a list of places and events that are sure to put you in an autumn frame of mind.

Apple Annie’s

Apple Annie's is located in Willcox, Ariz., which is about a three-hour drive from the Valley. The farm grows over 40 acres of pumpkins each year, and more than 25-30 varieties of the fruit. In addition to a pick-your-own pumpkin patch, you’ll find pre-picked pumpkins and the largest corn maze in the state. Visitors spend an average of two hours in the maze, which is family - and all-terrain stroller - friendly.

Nothing says Fall like cozying with a good book, or better yet, uniting with fellow bibliophiles. Litquake is a mostly-free, 10-day festival that booklovers of all ages have flocked to for 17 years. The festival, which takes place Oct. 11-20 this year, features readings from journalists, poets, and novelists. It also includes Lit Crawl, a bar crawl that makes its way through usual venues like bars and cafes as well as unusual venues like police stations and laundromats.

Paso Robles Harvest Wine Weekend

Experience a different kind of fall color display this year by visiting wine country. Sit back and enjoy the vineyard, which takes on autumn’s hues, while you savor the maroons and golds you find in your glass. Harvest usually begins in late summer, but events last through October. Paso Robles Harvest Wine Weekend takes place Oct. 19-21. Over 100 wineries participate in the weekend, which features grape stomping, beautiful fall foliage, barrel samples and more.

Willcox Wine Country Fall Festival

The Willcox Wine Country Fall Festival takes place Oct. 20-21 in Willcox, which is 80 miles east of Tucson. The festival features more than a dozen local wineries and has been named one of the top 10 wine festivals in North America.

Feast Medocino

Located in Northern California, Mendocino County is home to more than 3,000 mushroom varieties. Feast Mendocino takes place from Nov. 2-11. The 10-day event honors these flavorful treasures with mushroom themed events ranging from dinners and wine-paired tasting menus to a mushroom hike and forage.
