Field Trip Friday: Maricopa

MARICOPA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- On this Field Trip Friday, Good Morning Arizona is checking out key landmarks around Maricopa, Arizona. Maricopa is separate from Maricopa County. It is actually in Pinal County just 35 miles south of the Valley.

On this Field Trip Friday, Good Morning Arizona made its way to the city of Maricopa and caught up with Mayor Christian Price. Maricopa is a young city about 18-years-old located in Pinal County. This segment is sponsored by Sanderson Ford.

Maricopa's Mayor Christian Price says the city is a younger one than then majority of Arizona cities - it about 18 years old. It started with 1,200 people in 2000 to now to around 55,000 people.

"When you're an 18 year old city, you haven't had the time to put all of the things in that other major cities have, and so it's coming. But but that's part of the fun of it is that you know, really, we're doing things for the very first time, and in ways that have never been done before," says Price. "And so we are kind of just on this accelerated pace. It's kind of like running a a Sprint, and we're in an all out dash here, and so it's it's coming. If it's not here yet."

Mayor Christian Price says Maricopa has a lot to offer including the Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino, quite a few food places, and the brand new city hall and public library buildings. The city is continuing to grow at a rapid speed according to Price. This segment is sponsored by Sanderson Ford.

The Maricopa City Hall and the Maricopa Public Library are both brand new buildings for residents and guests to visit especially as mandates adjust following the pandemic.

Copper Sky Recreation has something for the whole family including an outdoor swimming pool complete with a water slide. And can't forget golfing at Southern Dunes Golf Course. Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino has plenty of slot machines and poker tables along with other forms of entertainment. If you didn't know, there is a lot of things to discover and check out in Maricopa. Maybe a nice weekend trip or even a day trip sometime.
