PHOENIX (3TV/CBS5) -- If you're looking for fresh, local cuisine with spectacular desert views, look no further than Gertrude's in Phoenix, located right inside the Desert Botanical Garden. Gertrudes' seasonal menus celebrate Arizona’s growers while offering a sophisticated culinary experience in a peaceful desert setting. Many ingredients come directly from the farm and pasture to the plate. The dishes served are bursting with color, flavor and freshness, and can often resemble a botanical garden on a plate.

The menu emulates what you might find in a garden. Whenever possible, Gertrude’s purchases locally-grown, sustainable, naturally-raised and organic products.

The restaurant’s highly-acclaimed patio is the perfect setting for a quick lunch, leisurely glass of wine, or exquisite four-course dinner in a stunning garden setting. It's a great location for a date night or even a romantic spot to pop the question. "We have proposals, weddings. We get to be a part of a lot of celebrations of different parts of life and it’s fun."

While the meal delivers delicacies of the desert, it's even better followed by a leisurely stroll in the garden. "As you drive downtown, you can see cactus everywhere. But to see it set like this and in a garden setting, with all the floral and the fauna and the little critters and the lights, I think that it is a gem and I think that more and more people will discover it as time goes on."

Gertrude, the restaurant’s namesake, was a rare gem herself. Gertrude Divine Webster founded the garden in 1939. She was a humanitarian a little ahead of her time. "She felt that this plot of land here spoke to her. She handpicked it out; she worked it with her hands, and set it up to a place where people can come and reflect and to find peace."

Try appetizers like crap dip and smoked/fried tofu, salads like the Smoked Salmon salad or the Grain & Seeds Bowl, of mail dishes like Korean Chicken, Roasted Half Duck or Seared Scallops.
