Battalion Chief Jesus Rivera oversees the Surprise Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division. He has recently established 2 new programs in the Department:
- Behavioral Health Alternative Destination Service – This new service allows behavioral health patients to be transported to a behavioral health clinic versus the hospital emergency room (ER), saving time and money, as well as freeing up the ER for emergency patients and keeping an ambulance in service.
- Treat and Refer Program – This allows paramedics to follow up with patients to alleviate frequent emergency medical calls and hospital transports.
Chief Rivera makes presentations across the State with DHS to discuss these programs, and has become an ambassador around the state as well as nationally. He has made the Surprise EMS division a model for other fire departments across the country.
