GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - A woman has life-threatening injuries after police say she drove into oncoming traffic and caused a crash in Glendale on Friday afternoon. Investigators said she was going north on 51st Avenue around 4:30 p.m. when she crossed over into the southbound lanes and hit a pickup truck near Olive Avenue. The impact of that crash caused a third driver to get involved. Officers arrived and provided first aid to the woman, who was then taken to the hospital.
Police are trying to figure out why the woman went into the wrong lanes. One other person was hurt but their injuries aren't considered life-threatening. An investigation is underway into the crash. 51st Avenue is closed from Olive Avenue to Northern Avenue so drivers should take 43rd Avenue or 59th Avenue as an alternate route. No word yet when the road will be reopened.
