PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5)-- A woman is in critical condition following a house fire in Phoenix Sunday morning.

The fire was reported by a passerby who saw smoke coming from a home near 32nd Street and Greenway Road.

Phoenix Fire Department Capt. Danny Giles said arriving firefighters saw smoke coming out of the gables of the home located on 29th Street south of Greenway Road.

Giles says firefighters made their way into the smoke-filled home to look for anyone inside.

"Firefighters found a woman in the garage in the opposite side of the house from where the fire originated from," said Giles.

The 60-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital with second-and third-degree burns on 70 percent of her body. She is listed in critical condition, said Giles.

Giles says this particular situation was dangerous to firefighters as the home was charged with smoke.

"Anytime those fires are oxygen deprived, that's the ignition source the fire craves, oxygen. When our crews opened the front door smoke came billowing out," said Giles. "That could have been a dangerous situation."
