Waymo

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Waymo announced Wednesday morning that the company will be expanding its self-driving service to the metro Phoenix area.

The self-driving service originally debuted in April 2017 with the early-rider program.

The program invited members of the public to test out the self-driving vehicles and was available in Chandler and the East Valley.

Now, a service called Waymo One will available to those same early riders with the hope of expanding it to even more people.

Early riders will be the first to use Waymo One and the service has expanded to several cities in the Metro Phoenix area, including Chandler, Tempe, Mesa and Gilbert.

The self-driving cars can be called 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The company hopes to expand the amount of self-driving vehicles and the area they cover in the future.

This scares me. I mean, technically if every car was self-driving and could communicate with traffic signals and each other and had adequate sensors they would probably not only be super-safe, but also reduce traffic issues...

But... these have to operate alongside humans and the stuff I see on the roads every single day by drivers in a rush or just bad drivers in general, there is no way a computer-driven vehicle can predict and react well against it.
