(Meredith) - A father in northern India surprised his 22-year-old son with a brand new BMW for his birthday, but apparently it wasn't the luxury vehicle his son had hoped for.

The 22-year-old man named Akash became so upset upon receiving the gift that he pushed the BMW into a river, the Times of India reported.

According to local authorities, he wanted a Jaguar instead.

"Akash was demanding for a Jaguar car from his father, but when his father failed to buy one, he threw away his BMW in a fit of anger," Mukesh Kumar, a station house officer for Chhachhrauli police, told the newspaper. "His family had sold the Innova they had received from his in-laws to buy him the BMW."

A video from the scene shows the car sinking beneath the water as divers and witnesses try to retrieve it. They eventually pulled it out with a crane.

His father, Sanjeev Kumar, later defended the 22-year-old and denied he wanted a Jaguar, according to CBS News. The dad, a local landowner, is now claiming his son swerved to avoid hitting an antelope before the BMW fell into the river.

Spoiled Brat. Needs a good beating!

A budding auto-idiot. Anyone who chooses a jag over a bimmer is clueless, and won't ever be a real car guy. How about a Kia, Akash? Even that would be better choice lol.

Give him a gun ... drop him off at the mall for the afternoon movie ...

Next time buy the kid what he wants. Yeeee haw.

Poor guy.
