(Meredith) - Costco is warning customers about a fake $75 coupon that's making the rounds on social media.
The scam popped up as a Facebook post that encouraged users to fill out multiple surveys to get a coupon in celebration of Costco's 50th anniversary, according to Snopes.
After completing the surveys, users were directed to a web page that asked them to input a fair amount of personal information -- including names, addresses, birth dates, and phone numbers. They also had to sign up for at least six "reward offers," which typically involved applying for a credit card or a paid subscription service.
On Tuesday, Costco urged customers to stop spreading the scam on their Facebook pages.
"Despite several posts out there, Costco is NOT giving away $75 coupons," the company posted to its official Facebook page. "While we love our fans and our members, this offer is a SCAM, and in no way affiliated with Costco. Thanks to our fans for letting us know about this recurring hoax!"
