(KPRC/CNN/Meredith) -- Police believe a 65-year-old Texas man died from injuries he got from having rough sex with his 81-year-old relative.

The two men were allegedly lovers and made up a story about a mugging to try to explain the injuries.

Craig Lamell, 65, was beaten so badly he had to be hospitalized last November. He suffered severe head injuries that led to his death on Dec. 2.

At the time, Lamell told police he was walking on a bike trail in southeast Houston when he was attacked and beaten by three men. But with no identifying information, the case went cold.

But then, last month, there was a break in the case after Alan Bischoff, 81, was laid off from his job. Company officials found personal emails on his office computer, according to court records.

According to those records, in one of the emails, Bischoff wrote that “he and Lamell had a sexual relationship, and that they engaged in sadomasochistic behavior."

And that on Nov. 7, 2019, “Lamell had requested Bischoff to assault him, and that Bischoff did assault the decedent by punching him with his fists."

Bischoff allegedly went on to explain that before Lamell died, the two men “agreed to the mugging story as a cover.”

Bischoff has been charged with aggravated assault of a family member. He declined to speak about the allegation, but said he has an attorney.

It’s unclear exactly how Lamell and Bischoff are related.
