Rio verde scottsdale school bus crash

School bus involved in crash in north Scottsdale.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS5) -- The driver of an SUV that rear-ended a Cave Creek Unified School District bus has died.

The crash happened at 136th Street and Rio Verde Drive just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Video from the Lyons Roofing News Chopper showed massive damage to the front end of the Volkswagen SUV.

The Scottsdale Police Department on Thursday identified the driver as Michael J. Miller, 63. He died at the hospital.

According to the Cave Creek Unified School District, a driver rear-ended the stopped bus with middle and high school students on it.

Four students were transported to area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police closed the street in both directions for nearly seven hours.

Investigators are still piecing together the moments leading up to the crash.

"The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time," Sgt. Ben Hoster said Thursday.

Wonder if the SUV driver was dead BEFORE he hit the bus....

In order for the kids on the bus to be hurt from the SUV hitting the bus that SUV had to have been travelling too blasted fast. I was on a bus that was hit by a car and barely felt the bump. In fact if I had not seen the car coming I would not have known we had been hit. OK BIG BROTHER I CHANGED MY COMMENT EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NOT A THING WRONG WITH IT.

Lol! Darned liberal moderating tools and profanity filters!!
