ELOY, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- An investigation is underway after a soldier died during a training exercise near Eloy.
The Army says Master Sgt. Nathan Goodman died during a routine military free-fall training exercise on Tuesday. Goodman was 36 years old and from Hope Mills, North Carolina. He was born in Pasadena, California and grew up in Chicago. He enlisted in 2002 and graduated as a Special Forces Engineer Sergeant in 2007. Goodman completed four deployments to Afghanistan, one to Iraq, two to Africa and one to Kyrgyzstan. He was promoted to Master Sergeant in July 2019.
“Nathan was a beloved member of 3rd Special Forces Group and an exceptional leader in the Special Operations community,” said Col. Nathan Prussian with the Army.
Goodman has received multiple military honors including the Bronze Star.
The military hasn't said what led up to his death.
Eloy is located about an hour southeast of Phoenix.
