PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) − An SUV pulling a trailer crashed on northbound Interstate 17 early Wednesday morning, spilling nails and debris all over the roadway.

Northbound I-17 was closed at Northern Avenue due to the crash, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the injuries are currently unknown and may involve other vehicles.

Troopers are actively sweeping the road to clear the debris and nails so they can reopen the northbound lanes.

All traffic is exiting at Northern Avenue and can re-enter the freeway at Dunlap Avenue. Motorists should avoid taking this route or expect extreme delays.

There are several other collisions along northbound I-17, causing heavy delays for morning commuters.
