MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS5) -- A man has been killed in an officer-involved shooting in Mesa. It happened Wednesday morning near Extension Road and Southern Avenue in Mesa. No officers were hurt.

Police say that detectives from the Tempe's Fugitive Task Force Squad and Special Investigations Bureau were conducting surveillance of 37-year-old Armando Moreno Garcia, a known violent and wanted fugitive from California.
Garcia was initially spotted in Tempe and then followed into Mesa. As detectives attempted to apprehend Garcia, police say he fired a gun at officers. Officers returned fire hitting and killing Garcia. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say they have recovered a firearm from the scene.
Mesa police has assumed this ongoing investigation. Extension was closed south of Southern and North of Grove while the investigation took place. It has since reopened.
This is the second officer-involved shooting in the Phoenix area this year.
