TEMPE, AZ (3TV/CBS5) – Police have said that no charges are pending against a man who shot and killed a man during a dispute between neighbors in Tempe on Thursday.
According to Sgt. Hector Encinas with the Tempe Police Department, the shooting happened around 3 a.m. in the area of McClintock Drive and Southern Avenue. When police arrived at the scene, they found a man in his early 60s, later identified as Scott Moretsky, with multiple gunshot wounds at the side of the home. Tempe Fire Medical Rescue transported him to the hospital, where he died.
Investigators say that Mortesky was at banging on Ring security cameras with a hammer before staying on the dark side of the yard of the home where Clint Quihuis and his mother live in. As both victims were woken up to the banging, and the mother discovered Moretsky in the backyard, Quihuis went outside with a gun. Morestky then reportedly struck him in the hands with a hammer while outside and Quihuis fired five shots back.
Police said that both Quihuis and his mother have a court-issued order against harassment with Morestky and that no charges are being filed at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
