SCOTTSDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- A Scottsdale couple sparked toy brand Mattel's attention with a social media post asking for a same-sex Barbie wedding set.

Matt Jacobi and Nick Caprio are set to be married May 2019 and their two nieces will be flower girls.

When one of the girls' 8th birthday came around, Jacobi and Caprio wanted to get her something special to get her excited about the big day.

The couple found some Barbie wedding sets but none of them were same-sex wedding sets.

They decided to buy two and combine them to create one same-sex set.

The couple was disappointed with the lack of choices and posted their frustration on Instagram, tagging Mattel, the company that makes Barbie.

Hi @Mattel! Happy Holidays. We had a difficult time finding a same sex wedding set to give to my niece for her 8th birthday. she and her little sister are flower girls in our upcoming May wedding. We thought it would be special to give her something with a little meaning behind it. What a bummer you don't make one with two grooms. Anyway, we had to get creative and make a couple purchases. I hope our custom gift inspires you to make a #GayWedding set.

Jacobi said Mattel reached out to him Wednesday to set up a meeting to discuss the issue and they now have a meeting set up in the near future.

In the meantime, Jacobi and Caprio's niece was overjoyed with her birthday gift. The couple said they were happy to give her a gift with a little meaning behind it.

As a former member of the 'gay community' i can tell you this makes me sick. They want you to believe 'it's all about love' LoL. All they care about is sex. I've watched the 'community' become more extremist over the past 10-20 yrs and it's very sad. They discriminate more than a str8 bible thumper from the south. If you don't fit into their perfect world with a perfect job, body, car and other body parts ... you're not good enough for anything. If everyone knew what they were really like ....... lol. Love is one thing and drug fueled sex parties being 'normal' is another thing all together. Middle fingers up!! 🤣🤨😐😢

I am totally supportive of same-sex couples and marriages, but jeez - just buy two freakin' groom dolls like you did and put them together. Ditto Barbie s for same-sex females. There's so many more important aspects of life than this piddling problem.

I don't see what the big deal is, to boycott Mattel is a joke. Get over yourself, be inclusive, just because you don't want to buy the toy doesn't mean that others won't. Just move along and buy a different toy if you feel so strongly #ByeFelicia

More left-wing indoctrination of our kids to become gays and lesbians! Way to go Mattel! You won't see me spending one red cent on a Mattel toy in the future!

GBfan4life

Or just teach your kids to love unconditionally. wow some people. It's a toy man, doesn't mean you have to buy it. I just don't get why people are up in arms about this. Move on with your life, this isn't the 1900's anymore

And homosexuals claim they do not pressure others to join their flock. Right they don't.
What is different from this and pedophiles getting kids to join them? Nothing of course.

Mactact

I totally agree Dean. I don't expect Mattel to make a Barbie and Ken big game hunting set to give to my nephew. Although hunting is something I enjoy, I do not pressure children into making it something that they should enjoy.

GBfan4life

you are very ignorant and I will leave it at that.... comparing that to pedophiles wow.

I think what he is saying is that if you normalize the behavior and present it daily, consistently to children it will become not just a norm, but a preference.

Dean I think you have it backwards. For the longest time it was the homosexuals who have been pressured to join the "straight" flock. Am I right or am I right?

We have all known for years that Ken was gay. So what's the big deal?
