Surveillance video from a nearby salon shows Monday night's crash that claimed the life of a Phoenix police officer.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - The violent crash that killed Phoenix police officer Ginarro New Monday night was caught on an indoor surveillance camera. The crash happened Monday night at the intersection of Cave Creek Road and Greenway Parkway.

"Pieces of cars just flying in the air," is how J'Adore Salon owner Mayra Ornelas described it. "I just saw when it hit the car and it just flew. And I just -- it was very shocking."

Ornelas and her staff weren't able to get into the salon for a while on Tuesday morning as police and tow crew worked the scene. When she learned about the deadly crash she checked her indoor surveillance camera and found the quick video from about 10:45 p.m. Monday. It shows a police car flying through the air in a cloud of smoke and then landing and slowly rolling onto its top. There was another police car immediately behind the crash, so it responded within seconds.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time there have been horrible accidents outside Ornelas' salon window. "Speeding is a problem," she said. "I don't know what can be done, but speeding is a problem."

Tuesday afternoon Operation: Blue Ribbon showed up to tie flags and ribbons on nearby trees. The nonprofit is less than a year old. Its members put blue ribbons in various places around Phoenix neighborhoods regularly, but this was the first time they did it to honor a fallen officer.

"All of the citizens that drive by see that the police are supported, and then when officers are on their shift, driving around, they also know that they are supported," said AJ Marsden.
