TEMPE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - Roads are still closed after “one of the most impactful” waterline leaks in recent years in Tempe has stopped.

On Friday, a contractor damaged a steel water transmission line on Rural Road and Westchester Drive, causing streets to flood and roads to close.

The leak has been ongoing and roads are still expected to be closed for the rest of the week as crews assess the damage to the road and repair damaged sections of the pipe.

Officials from public works said that a line stop was installed and successfully stopped the leak on Tuesday.

“None of our residents or businesses are without water,” said Shannon Reed, a public information officer for Tempe. “Water quality and system reliability has not been adversely impacted.”

The street closure has been extended through Friday, Dec. 14.
