Real grenade ends up in donations at Surprise Goodwill, police investigate

The Surprise Police Department confirmed that the grenade was real after it went through an x-ray.

SURPRISE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Police are investigating after an employee at a Surprise Goodwill in the area of Greenway Road and Cotton Lane found a grenade in the mix of donation items on Friday night.

The Surprise Police Department confirmed that the grenade was real after it went through an x-ray. Fortunately, the grenade was inactive since someone apparently removed the explosive component from the inside of it beforehand, making the grenade not dangerous.

How the grenade ended up there among donations is unclear at this time.
