A homeowner in north Phoenix is displaying a flag with a controversial message that has some of her neighbors upset.
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - Marlene Correa knows she can't protect her kids from everything, but the last thing she expected to see in her neighborhood was a big, political flag with "F-Bomb" flapping in the wind.
"I just think that everybody is entitled to their opinions, but to have something like that where kids walk by every day is just, I just don't think it's OK," said Correa.
Social media is buzzing about the "F-Biden" flag a homeowner put in their backyard that backs up to Bell Road near 56th Street in North Phoenix.
In smaller print, it says "F-U" if you voted for him.
A number of neighbors have expressed their disgust, saying that having a foul language flag about the current President is not appropriate, especially with an elementary school a few blocks away.
There is no HOA in the neighborhood.
But First Amendment attorney Dan Barr said there's not much anyone can do, since the homeowner is legally allowed to express her opinion. "It might be vulgar, it might be offensive to people, but it is political speech nevertheless, and likely protected by the First amendment," said Barr.
The homeowner who put up the "F-Biden" flag spoke to Arizona's Family. She asked us not to show her face or use her name because of concerns about her safety.
She tells us she has no plans to take the flag down. "Yes, it might be a little vulgar to some, and offensive to see, but everybody is entitled to their opinion," said the homeowner. "If the kids can figure out what the sign says, then these kids have already heard that kind of language and vulgarity, either at home, on TV, the movies, or in school."
"It's a sign," the homeowner said. "Get over it. If it hurts your feelings, sorry."
The homeowner does not live in an HOA community, so she is not in violation of any rules or regulations.
A spokesperson for Phoenix Neighborhood Services said the homeowner is not doing anything that would warrant a citation.
