PRESCOTT (3TV/CBS 5) - Since state Rep. David Stringer says he will not resign, city leaders in Prescott are talking about a potential recall campaign.

Prescott Mayor Greg Mengarelli said Friday that an effort to recall Stringer from office might be "inevitable."

"We hope we can figure out some way to get him out of his seat. He does not represent us, he's not going to be effective, and he doesn't represent our values, so we're going to do anything we can to make that happen," Mengarelli said.

The city's mayor pro tem, Billie Orr, said she would support a recall campaign and then added, "I think that will happen for sure."

This week, the City Council voted 6-1 to call for Stringer's resignation over his latest racially insensitive comments.

The action appeared to have little effect on Stringer who told the Prescott City Council two days later that he was not stepping down.

"Everything I've said, if you look at what I said, is defensible, is truthful, is factually accurate, can be supported by academic research," Stringer said Thursday night.

Stringer went on to tell the council that his comments that African Americans and non-white immigrants "don't blend in," were taken out of context.

Stringer was easily re-elected in November and starts his second term next month.

But any effort to recall him won’t begin until the summer.

State law says voters have to wait at least six months after the start of a new term in office to launch a recall campaign, said local election attorney Kory Langhofer.

Always funny to see a bunch of white people making them feel better about themselves by pretending to not be racist and throw one of their own under the bus...
