PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - Secretary of State Katie Hobbs advised voters to mail in their early ballots if they want to reduce their exposure to the coronavirus.
On Friday, Hobbs issued a statement urging voters to request an early ballot if they want to avoid the election days crowds at the polls on March 17.
However, that deadline to sign up for Arizona Presidential Preference Election was 5 p.m. So now, Hobbs is also trying to reassure voters they can still safely cast their ballots.
"Folks can feel as safe going to the polls as they feel doing any other activity that they choose to participate in," Hobbs said.
Hobbs said polls workers are taking basic precautions like disinfecting areas that are frequently touched and washing their hands frequently.
