PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - It appears Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar is getting in on a popular internet joke.
As first spotted by the Arizona Mirror, the Republican from Prescott sent out a series of 23 tweets Wednesday starting at around 1 p.m. Arizona time. The tweets were about the impeachment hearing looking at President Donald Trump's dealings with Ukraine, and contained a coded message. The first letter of each tweet spells "E-P-S-T-E-I-N D-I-D-N-T K-I-L-L H-I-M-S-E-L-F."
The message is in reference to the death of Jeffrey Epstein and the conspiracy theory that he didn't kill himself while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The theory has spawned memes and jokes across the internet. Some have ended long rants on TV with, "and Epstein didn't kill himself."
When asked about the tweets, a spokesman for Gosar sent Arizona's Family this statement.
"All of the tweets pertained to testimony from today’s hearing.
Rest assured, they are substantive.
Every one of them.
All of them.
5 were brilliant.
1 was ok."
That message spells out Area 51. The same message was tweeted around 4:15 p.m.
Gosar represents Arizona's 4th District.
