PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- A woman has been arrested after she accidentally shot her 13-year-old son in Phoenix Saturday evening, police say.

The incident happened just before 5:30 p.m. in the area of Fillmore and 24th streets

According to Phoenix police, the woman, 41-year-old Tonya Monroe, tried to break up a fight between an unwanted guest and the man she lives with, later identified as 59-year-old Michael Wilson.

Police say Wilson confronted the man outside the apartment while the 13-year-old was present and when the argument turned physical, Monroe got a gun to break up the fight.

That's when Monroe accidentally fired the weapon, shooting her own son, police say.

The boy was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but in stable condition.

Police say the unwanted guest was uncooperative with officers and would not provide any information about what happened and did not report any injuries.

Monroe was arrested and booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail for several charges including aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

Wilson was also arrested and was booked after police say they found drugs and weapons in the apartment.
