PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - A heartbroken mother tearfully asks "Why?" as she confronts her daughter's alleged killer during a virtual court hearing. The suspect, Andre Daniels, is accused of murdering 30-year-old Shavone Robinson in front of three of her young children back in May, and then leaving the children alone in the home for nearly a week.
The murdered woman's mother was given the opportunity to make a victim representative statement during Daniels' virtual court appearance last Friday. "How could you do this?" she asked Daniels, crying. "You are a very, very sick person!"
"I hope you rot. Just rot away," she continued. "You stole that from us. You took her!"
Police say on May 17, officers were called out to an apartment near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road after receiving reports of children crying and begging neighbors for food from the second floor patio of an apartment unit. Officers knocked on the door, but nobody answered, so they climbed a ladder to get onto the patio to help the kids and get inside.
Once inside, officers found Robinson dead in a pool of blood. She had been stabbed multiple times in the neck, face, and upper body. Robinson's one-month-old baby was lying on the floor nearby. Court documents state that the baby had multiple skull fractures and bleeding on the brain, while the two toddlers on the patio, aged 3 and 2, were vomiting and suffering from dehydration. Investigators believe the children were there for five days before police rescued them.
"You did all of this and left all this for my young babies to see this? And she laid there for who knows how many days? And the kids were there watching their mom?" Robinson's mother asked the suspect, crying. "What did she do to you to have you take her away from me?"
Detectives believe Daniels was the father to the one-month-old and that he wanted Robinson to abort the child when she informed him that she was pregnant.
"I think the death penalty? That's too easy," the victim's mother said to Daniels. "I would like for you to live until God takes you. I would like you to suffer behind those bars."
Daniels, who previously served a prison sentence for kidnapping, is charged with first degree murder and child abuse. He's being held on a $3 million bond. "He really destroyed our family," said the victim's mother. "And I don't know why."
When the judge asked Daniels if he wanted to respond to the mother's statement, he said no.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Robinson's children.
